Is the Canon 70-200 I.S F/4.0 Lens good enough with a Rebel body to get portraits of people passing by (not running) or maybe on a bicycle on a cloudy dull day with out having to go up to iso 800 or more.
I will have to consider the 70-200 F/2.8- I.S otherwise. I wouldnt be using a tripod.
I have just learnt photography by triall and error over the last few years, and reading up on the internet a bit. Hence my ignorance, actually a second part to this question, what shutter speed roughly would be the least i should be using for a sharp shot in these situations.

Answer by Edwin Lets look at the “Sunny 16 Rule” to answer your question. It says: “On a sunny day, use f16 with a shutter speed of 1/ISO”. So if we’re shooting on a sunny day with ISO 200 we can expect a good exposure at f16 and 1/200 sec.
Although I am a “true believer” in having the fastest lens available, the only reason you would really need the 70-200mm f2.8 would be in true low-light situations and even then you only gain 1 stop. So if you were faced with a situation and using ISO 400 with the f2.8 and got a shutter speed of 1/125, with the f4 your shutter speed would be 1/60. To get back to 1/125 all you’d need do is change the ISO to 400.
As long as you keep your shutter speed at 1/focal length (1/250 for your 70- 200mm lens) you should be fine.

I’ ve had this lens for around a month. It’s a much less alternative to the Canon 1.2mm lens, which costs around ,300 or so. Many photographers can’t justify this cost for just one prime lens, especially if they’re still trying to fill in the gap for quality zoom lenses such as the 24-70 2.8 or the two thousand dollar 70-200 2.8 with image stabilization. Nevertheless, There are cheaper alternatives from Canon that can produce nearly the same results in the right circumstances, which the experienced photographer will soon discover and leverage to their advantage. This lens was available at my favorite photographic equipment shop in Fullerton, Fullerton Cameras for a mere . A second-hand steal from someone who apparently upgraded to better things. I had a wedding to shoot the next day and decided to buy this lens instead of renting its 1.2 cousin.
My results were extremely pleasing. This lens scoops up all the light at full aperture that you could need in nearly any circumstance. My wedding was in a Catholic church which adhered strictly to a no-flash rule. I shot relatively wider shots from my mandatory 30 feet off to the side location, and video with this lens on the Canon T2i. The lens performed better in the low light of the church than the 70-200, which was only able to perform because of its image stabilization, giving me the ability to slow the shutter speed dangerously close to what would normally be “expect a blurry shot” territory. I got a few good shots even at speeds as low as 1/40 second. As for the 50MM 1.8, I could stay around 1/80 second to 1/100 second in the poorly lit sanctuary. All in all, I’ve had an amazing amount of fun and success with this lens, well worth the second-hand, or even new price. If money is the object and you need a decent prime lens, especially to get started in prime lenses, this one may be just the right candidate for you. My first HD video test on the new Canon Rebel T2i/550D. Shot with the nifty fifty (50mm f1.8) lens. Quickly filmed and edited in Sony Vegas 9 Pro. No color correction used. All clips were handheld. (I know a lot of these shots would look ten times better with a steadicam, but I don’t have one. Yet!) I had no prior experience to working with video on the T2i, so there are a few clips that seemed out of focus. I was just too excited to check out the results! I bought the T2i/550d mainly for HD video editing, but I was so caught up on photo editing the first few days because this camera is that amazing. The T2i/550d paired with the 50mm f1.8 is hands down one of the best values you can find in photography and filming. Can’t wait to do more with it! Is $ 165 worth it for a Canon EF 50mm F1.8 mk I (if everything is in good shape)? Or a mk II new for $ 120?

31 Green and Blue Flashing Pacific Sunset Through Telescope (50x)
This time the sky was so clear, that my camera had problems with the brightness of the sun, though I already mounted a much smaller aperture (42 mm instead of 62 mm) in front of the telescope (114/900mm). I have a Canon EOS Rebel G that came with a 28-80 mini zoom macro and a 70-300 macro super…..I want to get a digital that i can still use my lenses on.Any recommendations? Would it be cheaper to get just the body? Im looking in the $ 500 range.I am not a pro, but hope to get a good camera to learn that will last.
